OTHONOI is the largest of the three islands. It is a heavenly island where nature combines the Greek sea and the mountains. A wonderful place for you to make your home and it is ideal for sailing and also for quiet holidays. Beautiful churches and traditional houses adorn this island. It is approximately 12 nautical miles north of Corfu and has an area of 10 square km.
There are about 100 residents. A very quiet island, it is a relatively poor area and the residents make their living either from fishing or from the small number of olive trees. The way of life led by the people today, however, is not indicative of the island's history.
Historically, boats leaving or entering the Adriatic Sea used to stop in the harbour of Ammos, located on the eastern side, and it was always very busy. Today, visitors continue to sail into Ammos where the few shops that exist on the island are located. There are footpaths and tracks connect with the interior of the island and it is a paradise for those who enjoy walking. The island is also popular for those on sailing holidays.
Visitors can see the church of the Holy trinity in Ammos, the church of the Virgin Mary in the settlement of Daphni and the cave of Kalypsos. Boats to the island are available from St. Stephanos (Avliotes) or Sidari.Legend says that one of the caves is the cove of Calypso, where the beautiful bride kept Odysseus jailed for seven years until she finally helped him escape and return to Ithaca.
