Properties for Sale in Magoulades
North west Corfu is characterised by villages perched high in the mountains, rugged sandy beaches and charming coastal settlements.
Popular spots here include Peroulades, in close proximity to Longos Beach and Cape Drastis, Agios Stefanos with its rolling hills and gorgeous olive groves, and Arrilas with its sweeping beach and idyllic islet-sprinkled bay.
Magoulades blends into this magical mix marvellously and boasts its own unique place in the history books ̶ it merited a mention in Homer’s writings and was supposedly visited by Plato in 405AD, when he attended the elaborate feasts of Linaion held in honour of the deity Dionysus in nearby Nymfes.
The history of Magoulades is also writ large in its many fine churches and monasteries, the most famous of which is Panagia Ypsili, which dates from the early 10th Century and is one of the island’s oldest, and the main church Agioi Theodoroi, built in the 1920s in a commanding position overlooking the lush terracotta topped settlements that tumble down towards the cool coastline.
Things to do in Magoulades
Canal d’Amour Beach is only 6.6km roughly northeast of Magoulades and you can be there in under 15 minutes. Time and tide have carved the coastline into a curvaceous lunar landscape here, creating hidden coves, dramatic cliffsides and secluded strips of soft, welcoming sand ̶ it really has to be seen to be believed. Furthermore, if you’re holidaying here with someone special, the name stems from an ancient legend that proposes any two people who swim together will be struck by Cupid’s arrows and fall in love instantly, so getting your swimming costume wet could change your life forever!
If you’re interested in Eastern meditation and mindfulness, Magoulades also hosts Corfu Buddha Hall, a stunning retreat dedicated to meditative arts which is a soporific sanctuary from the travails of busy modern life. Here you can enjoy everything from powerful guided meditations to myofascial energetic release and specialist song, dance and yoga sessions. Vegetarian cuisine is prepared onsite using fresh local ingredients and every dish is designed to deliver the energy you need to maintain perfect mind and body balance.
Alternatively, if you love seafood, pop over to the Vavilas Fish Taverna in nearby Arrilas, where the eponymous family have been serving delicious ocean-fresh dishes to an adoring clientele since 1992 ̶ once bitten, forever smitten.
