Agios Georgios South, also called Agios Georgios Argyradon (as it is essentially the sea outlet of the nearby village Argyrades), is a famous tourist resort on the southwest side of Corfu that attracts people of all ages for a relaxing holiday. The prefix “South” is used to differentiate it from the other settlement named Agios Georgios on the northwest side of Corfu, near Paleokastritsa. It is 33km south of Corfu Town.

Agios Georgios South is a Blue Flag awarded beach that seems to stretch for an eternity (indeed, it is 8km long). It is sandy with crystal clear waters. So, whatever you are looking for, crowds or isolation, you will find it here. The beach is fully organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, showers, and changing cabins.

Agios Georgios South is a serene seaside resort and an ideal location for laidback holidays. Its landscape is impressive, as it is surrounded by olive groves and sand dunes to the north. It is preferred by both couples and families and by parties of friends who are looking for something off the main tourist tracks. Besides sunbathing, there are many watersport options visitors can take advantage of, from parasailing and jet skiing to windsurfing. You all also do scuba diving or go on boat day tours.

Issos Beach

Issos is a wonder of nature waiting to be discovered. Located to the north of Agios Georgios South, it is a sandy beach with sand dunes that separate it from the saltwater lake called Korission Lagoon, just behind it.

Issos owes its charm to the fact that it is not highly developed. There are some sunbeds, but the place is never overcrowded. Due to its strong winds, it is a paradise for kite and windsurfing lovers.

The famous sand dunes of Issos work as a natural barrier between the shore and the protected wetland of Korrision Lagoon. If you climb them at sunset, you will admire a fantastic spectacle of orange and gold colors.

Chalikounas Beach

Chalikounas is a sandy beach that, similar to Issos, is separated from the Korission Lagoon by sand dunes. It is an unspoiled landscape that can cause nothing by admiration to nature lovers.

The area of Chalikounas Beach is vast, so it takes multiple visits to explore. The shiny sand dunes, in combination with the golden sand, the lagoon’s deep blue, and the lush greenery behind it, create an unforgettable sight for your eyes only.

As in Issos, winds here are usually strong. So, it is another ideal spot for kite surfing and windsurfing.

Marathias Beach

Marathias, taking its name from the village behind it, is a long, sandy Blue Flag beach with translucent waters. It is fully organized, offering sunbeds and various watersports activities.

The beach attracts many people in the summer, but it is never overcrowded due to its length (4km). Its shallow waters make it ideal for children too. Along the coast, many tavernas are offering delicious local and Greek cuisine.

Korission Lagoon

Korission Lagoon is a saltwater lake and a very important wetland on the southwest side of Corfu, protected by the Natura Treaty.

The lagoon has an area of approximately 6,000 hectares. The famous sand dunes around it, which separate it from coastal areas such as Chalikounas and Issos beaches, can reach up to 15m in height, creating a lunar spectacle. It also includes a stunningly beautiful cedar forest.

Korission Lagoon attracts various bird species, such as flamingos, cormorants, yellowhammers, and ducks. Flora-wise, it is home to white lilies and 14 different kinds of orchids.

The lagoon is a place of significant natural importance, so many environmental activities are organized in the broader area.
