Properties for Sale in Benitses

In many ways, central Corfu is the island’s beating heart  ̶  this is where the lion’s share of the island’s population resides, in charming towns and villages scattered amongst its rolling hills, valleys and coastlines.

Popular resorts here include Pelekas, Kommeno, Dassia and, many people’s favourite, Benitses. Just 12.5km south of Corfu Town, Benitses is a postcard-pretty fishing village with a population of just 800 inhabitants, although this swells considerably during peak tourist season.

Attractions here include sumptuous shingle, sand and pebble beaches nestled next to awesome azure waters, a brilliant selection of shops, bars and restaurants and a charming marina where you can watch yachts bobbing in the breeze as you enjoy a sunset stroll.

As you might expect in an island where ancient meets modern, there are ample attractions for history fans too, with the romantic ruins of an ancient Roman villa and baths ripe for exploration.

Whether you buy an apartment, villa or maisonette here, it’s an idyllic spot for a new home.

Things to do in Benitses

There are plenty of enjoyable activities in and around Benitses that stimulate the mind and body  ̶  in fact, your only problem might be which to choose.

If you’re fond of a vigorous hike, explore the lush hillsides behind the village and you’ll stumble across ancient ruins and several small yet stunning churches, including Agia Triada, Agios Nikolaos and Evaggelistria, to name but a few.

Meanwhile, at the Corfu Sea Museum you’ll find one of the largest sea life collections in the Mediterranean, which includes shells, corals, sponges and gargantuan stuffed fish.

If the Sea Museum whets your appetite for further adventures on the ocean waves, take a cruise out from Benitses harbour to the town of Parga on the mainland, to the serene island of Paxos, or to Mourtos, where there are outstanding beaches secreting cavernous caves large enough for your boat to enter and little islets clustered close enough for you to swim between.

The cultural calendar in Benitses is also packed with lively local events. You can see people vaulting over fires during the feat of St John the Lampatari held on 22 June and there’s a sardine festival on 10th August, but the main event is the Festival of Agia Marina  ̶  held on July 16th and 17th each year, at this gathering you’ll enjoy dancers wearing traditional Corfiot costumes, a folk orchestra which serenades guests into the wee small hours and countless stalls selling local delicacies, souvenirs and artworks.
